How To: Winter Hair Trends

We asked our Kids’ Hair Experts what some of their favorite styles were over the holiday season. We found a number of winter hair trends and adorable kids’ styles that go beyond the holiday season. Here are 5 great looks we love!

The stylists who created these masterpieces share a quick how-to with Snip-its hair care products used. Consult with your Snip-its stylist for the best products and style for your child’s specific hair type.

PRINCESS BRAID:

CharlotteWinnerBlog

We love the way it looks! This long-lasting look starts with a swooping braid across the front and around the side. It ends with one or more braids twisted and coiled around the back, secured with some adorable hair clips. A look that’s rough and tumble, kid-play durable but sophisticated enough to encourage your little princess’ imagination to soar.

What You’ll Need:

  • Amazin’ Spray & Stay Hairspray
  • Morning Miracle Mousse Styling Spray
  • Bobby Pins, brush and comb

Iris’ Styling Tips:

  1. Start with Morning Miracle to control braid and keep hair in place while styling.
  2. Start with a French Braid (or simple twist for medium-length hair) in the front of the head from left to right. Swoop the braid around the side and then straight down the back.
  3. Coil and twist braid around the back, pinning where needed to get the desired effect. Use cute hair accessories to secure, add bling and hide the end of the braid.
  4. Once you get the desired shape, spray with Amazin’ Spray & Stay to keep it all locked into place.

BRAIDED TOP KNOT:

Sassy and adorable, top knots are a quick and easy way to keep longer hair secure and out of the way. The braid adds a graceful touch while reducing fly-aways and keeps wisps of your long-haired kiddo’s tresses tucked in.

Stylist: Trisha Ingram

What You’ll Need:

  • Tangle Buster Detangling Shampoo
  • No Yellin’ Melon Crème Conditioner
  • Morning Miracle Mousse Styling Spray
  • Funny Frizz Fix’r Smoothie Creme
  • Round Brush & bobby pins.

Trisha’s Styling Tips:

  1. Start with freshly shampooed and conditioned hair. Tangle Buster and No Yellin’ Melon are perfect for many hair types and lengths.
  2. Prep hair with Morning Miracle before blow drying for memory and control. Use a round brush whilst blow drying upside down.
  3. Start the braid at the base of the neck while hair is still flipped over and upside down.
  4. Twist the rest of the hair into a top knot and smooth out with a little Funny Frizz Fix’r; it works great for finishing off the look and to control any fly-aways. Snipify with a bow or other hair accessories.

STAR-STUDDED FAUX-HAWK:

So much fun! The Faux Hawk never goes out of style because it looks absolutely stunning on most little dudes. It’s easy enough to do on a number of different boys’ hair lengths on top—and so much fun for them to wear.

What You’ll Need:

  • Wacky Wax
  • Funky Spiker Super Hold Styling Gel
  • Comb

Brandi’s Styling Tips:

  1. Put a little Wacky Wax on your finger tips and rub the product around in your palm—heating it up in your hands helps make it a little sticker which makes the product move better throughout the hair.
  2. Spread the wax into the top of the head and comb through.
  3. Once combed through, start shaping the top—trying to lift it up a little to give it body and height. Then add Funky Spiker to spike, twist and style as desired. You’ll get all day hold that shampoos right out.
  4. Once you get the desired shape, use a little Wacky Wax to smooth the back and sides of the hair. Colored hairspray, hair chalk and some great hair accessories can finish this look.

CROSSOVER CASCADE BRAID:

Stylist: Sheny Gonzalez

What You’ll Need:

  • Sparkle Spritz Shining Mist
  • Silly Slicker Ultimate Sculpting Gel
  • Flat iron and comb

Sheny’s Styling Tips:

  1. Start by using Sparkle Spritz to flat iron the hair, making it more manageable to work with and super shiny.
  2. Divide and brush each section with Silly Slicker for hold and style durability.
  3. Use a small amount of Silly Slicker to start braiding the hair on the right-side, upfront. Move the braid around and down towards the bottom of the back, left-side to end.
  4. Finish by spraying some more Sparkle Spritz in your hands, rubbing them together and lightly run through hair and down braid to get rid of fly-aways and smooth the whole look.

  3. Use a small amount of Wacky Wax on finger tips throughout braiding process to tame fly-aways and to pull-out, or loosen, the finished braid to the desired look.
